Family Court has run off the tracks.

- The war next door.

Let me tell you a little story about a couple whose marriage has finally come to an end, and who went through the wringer of Family Court in little old Suffolk County, New York. I will start by laying some ground work as the basis for my conclusions, as I have been through similar processes twice, and in the same County. Looking back, I think I was treated fairly by the Court.

       I.     Family Court Judge in case = 74 y/o, Husband of Town of Huntington elected official.
II.    Wife had an ineffective, non-aggressive lawyer.
III.    Husband went through two lawyers, used as stalling tactics very successfully.
IV.     Husband received an Order of Protection against the wife under false premises; quickly
          rescinded.
    V.     Wife awarded $500/mo. In child support for three un-emancipated children.
VI.      Husband earns approx. $126k; wife earns approx. $100k; both
          are teachers.
VII.      Each party spent approx. $200k (+) on lawyers and fees; so,
you tell me who the winner is.
VIII.    Child advocate, Susan Stoltz is ancient and hates women; sided
          100% with Husband.
IX.      Judge also leaned toward Husband.
    X.      Couple lived under these conditions in the same house for over
           three years.
XI.      Husband has attempted to manipulate the children against the Wife.
XII.      Husband's mother gifted the couple $70k as a down payment on their current house.
XIII.     Husband did not pay full Vi-share of bills since action was first adjudicated.
XIV.    Wife attached ½ of Husband's available pension; Husband's first wife has prior attachment of
           ½   , so current wife only gets ½   of a ½ = ¼
XV.      Wife agreed to refund entire $70k gift; + $176k (1/2) of the equity in their current house;
most of the household furnishings; husband is holding out for more.
XVI.    Couple agreed to "shared" custody; 2 week days / 3 week day nights / alternating
weekends. I know from experience that this set-up is a bad one right from the start.
XVII.   Husband finally told to vacate current house by February, 2014; given past history, this date is
           not written in stone.
XVIII.  All three children are now siding with their mother, but still don't want to upset their father.

The clock is ticking for this sorry excuse of a father/husband. He has a scant two and a half weeks before he's supposed to be out of the house. This entails him buying his own house, which is something I'm pretty sure will give him an excuse to drag things out even longer. He will probably be allowed to do so by our wonderful Family Court system (aka. Love Boat).

This is a member of the male species who has never gone food shopping, never cooked a decent meal, never played in the back yard with his kids, and, apparently, never paid his share of the expenses at any level. I have it from reliable sources that he has spent the majority of the past three years cooped up in the master bedroom trying to write the next great American novel. During the storm "Sandy", he refused to even light a fire in the fireplace after the electricity went out and shut the furnace down; he was consistent in his inactivity for the full duration of the power outage. Yes, he had plenty of fire wood, and could have, at any time, taken some of mine, as I had an abundant amount.

In the almost fourteen years I have been acquainted with this person only once have I witnessed him in his back yard, and I have more than enough fingers and toes to count the times I have seen him shooting hoops with his sons in the driveway. How the wife has been able to keep her sanity for the past three years is way beyond my imagination. Were I her, and I'm not, I would probably have been very tempted to make a purchase of some sort of weapon of mass destruction and been done with him. By not doing so, the wife has demonstrated her love for her children by staying on an even keel (on the outside). She has indeed entered my house with tears streaming down her face. Luckily, my wife and I have been here to console her fears of losing her children because of a Court system that most obviously was not giving her a fair deal.

This neighbor man has consistently acted like a two year old child, and from all indications his tantrums have served him very well in this situation. His arrogance and snobbery made it impossible for me to make friends with him, and my aforementioned feelings started growing pretty much after the first time we met. I recall one very heavy snow storm, 2002 I believe, before I was married to my wife. The two of us had been off somewhere and returned home to find the neighbors struggling to get the neighbor wife's father through the snow and into a car to take him home. Somehow, they managed to Grandpa stuck in a snow drift. The neighbor man, the neighbor wife's brother, and the entire "famn damily" were standing around with their proverbial thumbs up their proverbial butts. Thankfully I returned home in time to witness this Chinese fire drill, and was able to jump in and take over the task of getting Grandpa through the snow and into the car. Neighbor man never uttered one word of thanks, or appreciation. Neighbor wife has, to this day, never forgotten that little episode, and thanked me on numerous occasions.

All this brings me to my point. What the Hell is a septuagenarian doing on the Bench in State Supreme Court, Family Part? Could it be simply because he's politically connected through his wife? Could it be simply that he still needs a pay check? Could it be because he's in the "Goode Olde Boys Club" with his fellow ambulance-chasing lawyers?

I'm going to go with "all the above". The cronyism still runs deep here in Suffolk County, as I'm certain it does all across this Nation.

             Have a nice day!

The Town of Huntington.........part XII

- Such a nice place to live and raise a family.

Well, don’t this beat all?

Supervisor Petrone Outlines His Agenda at Inaugural Ceremony
By Village Tattler, on January 7th, 2014

Huntington Supervisor Frank P. Petrone took the oath of office for a record sixth time January 6 and in an address outlined an agenda for the next for years that brings to fruition projects that implement his long-term vision for the Town.

Supervisor Petrone’s speech came before an audience of more than 500 people at Elwood/John H. Glenn High School at a ceremony that also saw Town Council Members Mark Cuthbertson and Tracey A. Edwards and Highway Superintendent Peter S. Gunther take their oaths and U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer and Rep. Steve Israel make congratulatory remarks.

“But most important,” he continued, “ four years from now I want to look back at a term in which cooperation was the hallmark of this Town Board, as everyone works together to achieve our common goal of

“Four years from now, I would like to look back at this term as the one that brought home the vision I have had for the Town over the past 20 years,” Supervisor Petrone said. He went on to list specific accomplishments he would like to see with respect to Huntington Station revitalization; further development of the route 110 Corridor in Melville; parking in Huntington village; parks improvements; a satisfactory resolution of the LIPA tax assessment suit; and an expansion of housing options for families, young persons and seniors."

Noting the different skill sets of his Town Board colleagues, the Supervisor detailed specific areas, based on their particular backgrounds, in which he asked each of them to work with him.
He asked Councilwoman Edwards to work with him on human resources and training issues in Town government, as well as working with Suffolk County and private industry to identify jobs for Huntington residents and help them identify training opportunities.

He asked Councilman Cuthbertson to be the point person on economic development and technical improvement issues in the town, to continue shepherding the Melville Master Plan to fruition and to work with the commercial real estate industry to help re-purpose vacant and underutilized buildings in the Route 110 Corridor.
He asked Councilman Eugene Cook to work with him on maximizing resources and services between the Highway and General Services Departments.

He asked Councilwoman Susan A. Berland to spearhead a thorough review and revision of Town Code, focusing on quality of life concerns.
“I have enjoyed every one of the past 20 years that I have served as Supervisor of this great Town,” Supervisor Petrone concluded. “I asked voters to allow me to serve a sixth term because I wanted to complete the unfinished business, bringing to fruition projects that have been my dreams for so many years. I look forward over the next four years to moving ahead together with my colleagues on the Town Board, my fellow elected officials in the Town and in County, state and federal government and most importantly, with all of you, the residents of Huntington.”

In his remarks, Councilman Cuthbertson, the senior member of the Town Council, said “We must continue to recognize that we are coming out of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression and continue or efforts to deliver the most cost effective and efficient government. ..I want us to continue to do what we do best. The things that we do best are as follows: we build civic and athletic facilities, we acquire great open spaces and parks, we regulate our quality of life and waterways, we pave roads and pick up garbage, we help promote economic development and affordable housing and we provide information about the services that we have at Town Hall. Those are things that we have done well and should continue to focus on, even if they are controversial.”

Councilwoman Edwards, the newest member of the Town Council, cited accessibility and employment as two of her priorities. She said he planned to establish “civic Saturdays… so I can come out to the communities and hear what’s on your mind so that you could shape me into a better councilperson.” In the area of employment, she said, “Employment lifts up individuals, families and communities, I think we can create more partnerships with our educational institutions labor and businesses so we to build the bridge and close he gaps so that we have trained people available for new technology, traditional jobs and green jobs.”
Highway Superintendent Gunther, in his remarks, noted the support he had received from the Supervisor and Town Departments during the recent snow storm and called for continued cooperation to help achieve efficiencies and savings.

Sen. Schumer told the audience, “I know how hard these people work for you. And you need it, because the quality of life is outstanding. Elected officials have to be vigilant to keep it that way, and they will. These four truly will…. [they are] people who care about their community and their fellow citizens.”

The ceremony included participation by all of the Town fire departments, American Legion and VFW Posts and veterans groups, as well as performances by the Spanish Choir from St. Hugh of Lincoln Roman Catholic Church and the Elwood/John H. Glenn High School Honors Ensemble.

AND, THE MARIONETTES DANCED UNTIL DAWN!

Who’s pulling the strings?

We know who the puppets are, but the big question is, “Who’s pulling the puppet’s strings?” With a remarkable number of whistle-blowers, this Century has gotten off to a very inauspicious start. The “Bush Years” didn’t seem to spawn very many of these leakers. During Obama’s reign, however, the leaks seem to be coming at a fast and furious rate. When a rash of these occurrences happen back to back to back, you have to put some distance between yourself and the events. Only then can you have a shot at seeing the big picture. Without much effort you can begin to notice possible patterns of what appear to be irrational, illogical situations. You start having some “Ah-Ha” moments, as you look at the time-lines and the events as a continuum of some sinister plot. We’re not talking James Bond, The Bourne Identity, or Maxwell Smart. But, at some point, you have to ask yourself, “What the Hell is going on here?”

Since 2008, there has been a truck load of stupidity emanating from Washington, DC. I stopped counting how many times the House of Representatives voted to strike down the Affordable Health Care Act. I stopped counting out of sheer disgust for our body Politic. There was this little thing they called the “Fiscal Cliff” which went the way of the old “Y2k” scare. The President still hasn’t been allowed to fill over half the open judicial positions in the Federal Court system; they have to be voted in by Congress. Guantanamo Bay Penitentiary is still in business for absolutely no reason. We pulled out of Iraq, beefed up our presence in Afghanistan, and, now, we’re taking a serious look at Syria. We’re repeating events that aren’t even history, yet. The U.S. Congress doesn’t consider the fact that the Country is still in an Economic Depression, so they won’t vote for any job creating stimulus Bills; I think the Democrats have simply thrown up their hands and walked away from that effort. Apparently the Country doesn’t need any Abortion Clinics, or Doctors who are willing to provide that service. And, while we’re at it, let’s make damn sure Women continue to make sizably less money for performing the same job as a man. By denying the LGBT Community their Civil Rights, are we upholding the Biblical rendition of marriage? Oh, I’m sorry. I forgot that over 50% of “traditional” Biblical marriages end in divorce, but, dear God, don’t let that stand in your way when voting for the Defense of Marriage Act. Do I remember correctly that someone put together a Bill that would require the sellers of lethal weapons to run background checks on their buyers? Silly me. What chance would a Bill like that have in our wonderful, upstanding, and worthy Congress?
Johnny Boehner

So, you see, it’s not just the whistle-blowers making all the noise. Our Elected Officials are off drumming to a different tune, also. If I was looking at a period of time that spanned decades, perhaps none of this would be cause for concern. But, all this, and more, and in such rapid succession has lead me to believe that "something’s rotten in Denmark"; so the saying goes. The question I keep coming back to is, “Who’s pulling the strings?”
